GMSL Capture Card
GMSL Video Frame Grabber and Generator
GMSL (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link) is a high-speed SerDes technology for transmitting video, audio, sensor and control data in vehicles. Developed by Analog Devices, the interface enables bidirectional data transmission via coaxial cable or shielded twisted-pair (STP) cables and has been specifically designed for applications with high demands on bandwidth, reliability and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). By combining data, control and power supply signals on a single line, GMSL helps to reduce cabling and vehicle weight.
Advantages:
- High-speed video transmission possible
- ideal for long distances
- bidirectional communication
- support for coaxial and STP cables
- differential signalling to minimise common-mode interference
Disadvantages
- proprietary technology tied to a specific manufacturer (Analog Devices)
- specialised serialiser and deserialiser components required
- limited interoperability with solutions from other vendors
Use of GMSL interface
✔ Medical technology, e.g. endoscopes with long cable runs (e.g. surgical cameras in modular surgical columns)
✔ Front, side, reversing and surround-view cameras in the automotive sector
✔ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
✔ Infotainment and central displays, head-up displays
✔ Industrial robots – 360° cameras for navigation and object recognition
✔ Surveillance systems with low-latency streaming via coaxial cable
Compatible base boards, including integrated firmware
- G CAR 6222 Video Dragon as a stand-alone solution
- G PXIe 6222 Video Dragon
- G PCIe 6222 Video Dragon
STP
G-Patch 6222 STP is an adapter box designed to adapt Video Dragon to customer-specific connectors and their pinouts, e.g. for various HSD connectors, H-MTD, MOLEX and other customer-specific video connectors on the device under test.
- Individual connection of the external power supply to the test specimen
- Disconnection of the test specimen’s power supply
